THE SUFFOLK CHEERLEADING OFFICIALS ASSOCIATION (SCOA) IS AN AFFILIATE OF THE NEW YORK STATE CHEERLEADING JUDGES ASSOCIATION (NYSCJA) AND SERVES SECTION XI IN SUFFOLK COUNTY.
The New York State Board of Regents unanimously approved that "competitive cheer" become an interscholastic sport at their April 2014 meeting. Read more about the discussion here.
In the Fall of 2017, The Section XI Cheerleading Committee decided to withdraw from NYSPHSAA and operate independently. All SCOA officials have attended additional panel judge training led by representatives of the Universal Cheerleaders Association (UCA), and Section XI's cheerleading scoring philosophy, rules, rubrics and scoresheets are modified from UCA's School/Rec Competition Rules and All Girl School/Rec Scoresheets. As of 2017, all cheerleading officials qualified to judge middle school, JV and Varsity cheerleading competitions in Suffolk County are among the most comprehensively and rigorously trained cheerleading officials in the nation!
Our organization actively recruits new officials to train to judge cheerleading competitions on Long Island and in New York State. All prospective officials must have background in cheerleading and/or gymnastics in order to be considered qualified to judge.
